While on bank of the Trinity River, the company disbanded and came home. Per his hand signed day-book, Ezzell reported he arrived home on the 28th day of May, 1865 and had served a period of three yrs., five mos., seven das.; having received 21 months pay averaging $24 per month, the remaining time having received nothing for service.

Oct. 19, 1862, admitted to General Hospital No. 4, Richmond, Va, occupation listed as laborer, admitted for gunshot wound. Furloughed 23 Oct 1862. On Company roll, Sept/Oct 1863, absent, wounded in action, Sept. 19, 1863. A letter from the Adjutant General dated 11 Mar 1953 states W. A. Fletcher to have been shown on a Company Muster roll for March 1864 (no such card found yet he was present in Feb) stating he had been "Transferred for infantry service to CO E, 8th Texas Cavalry" (no longer able to serve as a foot soldier due to wounds, etc.) This record also stated that no further record had been identified. W. A. Fletcher served in both Terry's Texas Rangers and Hood's Texas Brigade. His memoirs were used by Margaret Mitchell when she wrote, "Gone With the Wind". They were later published by his Great Granddaughter, Vallie Fletcher Taylor.
